The Kia Soul EV and Volkswagen T-Cross are also competitors in the race for World Urban Car (city car of the year), where they battle for first place with the Mini Cooper SE, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Clio.
The World Luxuy Car competition (luxury car of the year) is a war between the Germans. The list of finalists includes the BMW X5, BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz EQC, Porsche 911 and Porsche Taycan.
BMW and Porsche are hoping for the trophy and the World Performance Car (Car of the year) category, because that's where the BMW M8, Porsche 718 Spydder/Cayman GT4, Porsche 911, Porsche Taycan and Toyota GR Supra compete.
All models automatically enter the race for World Car Design of the Year (Design of the year), but in the shortlist, designers Ian Callum from Jaguar and Gordon Murray, responsible for the appearance of McLaren, included the Alpine 110S, Mazda3, Mazda CX-30, Peugeot 208 and Porsche Taycan.
The finalists were selected by a jury of 86 automotive journalists around the world. The shortlist will be presented in March at the Geneva motor show, and the winners will be announced in April in new York.
